Debility of Mankind

Updated: May 20, 2022

It is a world of spite,

Where there are many 'mongrels' who bite,

Amicable in appearance, despicable in manner,

Such that our visage constantly becomes wanner.

Racism and prejudice are here to stay,

Earnest efforts to efface them have been inadequate to this day.

Alas! If mankind had enough wit,

There wouldn't have been any terrorist outfit.

Suspicion is the bane of friendship,

And nepotism the wane of leadership,

Diligence is the lane to success,

And tranquility is the fane worth having in excess.

The law of the jungle becomes predominant,

Where the landlord is not concerned for his tenant.

The world has been robbed of its harmony,

Common people are compelled to live in parsimony.

The benefits of technology have rendered us indolent,

And our incrementing audacity has made us insolent,

Like waves on the ocean, we are ebbing away,

As we are also losing our way.

There is no despair when a ray of hope glimmers,

And no happiness when our lividness simmers,

It is not yet late for reforms,

Only if we strictly adhere to certain norms.

Every other day, someone would be brutally stabbed by a knife,

It does not take a minute to end someone's life.

We have been so blinded by our scorn,

That we don't realize the purpose for which we are born.

Let us then take up some onerous tasks,

And rid the world of men who don opprobrious masks,

Forget our differences; nurture peace,

And open the doors of progress with appropriate keys.
