The Pandemic of COVID-19 (A Poem)

Updated: May 20, 2022

There's a scent of imminent danger,

Coalesced with the fear of lingering contamination

That can be caused by shaking hands with an infected stranger,

And no certitude of its duration or its termination.

The tenacity of its transmission,

And the irreparable damage that it has caused in its wake,

Has united even acrimonious rivals together for a mission

To impede this virulent microbe for humanity's sake.

It can cause severe and acute respiratory ailment,

And can stay incredibly resilient,

Which has brought all the scientists and doctors to point of a predicament

On effectively combating a virus of which they’ve been hitherto nescient.

The whole world is reeling under the effect of crumbling economy,

And all advancements have come to a halt,

Including all the events being called off without any ceremony,

May the Almighty succor us in rectifying mankind’s fault!

What was first a mysterious form of pneumonia in the Chinese mainland,

Has now taken the form of a serious pandemic globally,

Befuddling the virologists who find it difficult to understand

How to impede the entry of this virus nasally.

Various endeavors have been made

To contain the spread by maintaining personal and social hygiene,

Exhorting social distancing and providing financial aid

To those in dire need for recuperation as well as enforcing lockdown and quarantine.

The rate of growth and replication being chiefly exponential,

Coupled with the fact of its material viability,

It is only becoming quintessential

For us to, as soon as possible, detect its fallibility.

Never in recent history has a disease demanded such urgency

That has prompted debate and immediate attention,

And the WHO declaring the outbreak as a public health emergency,

Half the world’s population living in grim apprehension.

This instance of an uncanny infectious malady has exposed many flaws,

In funding, research, treatment, and prevention of such contagious disease;

It is like a tiger ready and avid to pounce with its paws,

And the person standing in front of him is not at ease.

Crisis beckons all the nations to deter the situation from becoming ruinous,

As people are also getting exceedingly desirous,

Of normalcy to prevail in testing times and to be persistently courageous,

Enough to exterminate the threat posed by an invisible adversary – ‘novel coronavirus.’
